I am humbled and enthusiastic to serve as the principal of DECS. I am excited to continue to work collaboratively with our dedicated teachers and staff on a daily basis, while also having more opportunities to connect with our brilliant scholars as they learn and grow in and out of the classroom.
I have taught grades K through 6, as well as, Reading Intervention and as an Adjunct Instructor to Pre-teacher candidates. I began my journey as an educator 15 years ago while working for the Lodi Unified School District. I joined the DECS community in 2015 and have taught sixth grade and fourth grade, and the instructional coach.
Although I did not grow up in California, I have lived here for the last 20 years. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at UC San Diego, a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential at Sacramento State, and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Elementary Reading, from Grand Canyon University. This past November, I earned an Administrative Credential.
I am honored to join the Delta Charter Elementary School Community as your new Vice Principal. I chose to join Decs because of the commitment to holistic education and believe fundamentally in a balance between rigorous academics and engaged project-based learning. The commitment to Arts, Music, and PE when many other schools are cutting these programs attracted me also.
I spent 11 years teaching in three districts throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento. I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade and have experience working in schools in various capacities from pre-school up to high school. I have always prioritized trying to meet the needs of the whole child and this work will continue here at DECs.
I grew up in the Bay Area and spent most of my life in Walnut Creek and then Oakland as an early professional. I went to undergraduate at UC Santa Barbara. Before I became a teacher, I spent some years living and travelling abroad, which has been paramount in my growth not only as a human but as an educator.
I look forward to supporting the growth of Decs and River Charter Schools as an organization and with time, hope to build a lasting bond with staff, students, parents, and the broader community.
